Supporting Government Schools Students Gain Confidence in their Learning | iDream Education
An appropriate physical environment, without distraction, is important for learning. Unfortunately, most students of rural India do not have this privilege at home. Belonging to economically challenged families, their living conditions are poor, and little ones have added responsibilities of doing their share of the family work. For example, girls are majorly involved in household chores, whereas boys are expected to work like their fathers to get some money in the house. Because of this, they end up losing interest in their studies. They can not focus on learning for more than an hour.
Luckily, some get enrolled in government schools but still lack interest in learning because they are not at age-appropriate learning levels and have the mentality that they must ultimately do what their parents are doing. At the same time, teachers in schools work to improve their concentration and retention in studies but still struggle to find a way through it.
Do we have a solution to secure their interest in studies?
The innovation in education technology has started reaching government schools. Many of them now have access to digital content, and the effort of teachers has started paying off. We have seen these children study for hours and stay back in school to learn from digital content given on tablets.
From our interaction with students of many government schools, we have noticed the change in their confidence when they share their learnings with us. Thus, we believe giving students access to enjoyable content where they can switch to any class content to cope with their learning gap enables a sense of confidence in learning. It establishes a non-judgemental learning environment, where they get a switch to junior class content and learn at their own pace. And with the availability of academic as well as life skills and growth-based content, students get a free hand to explore their interests and feel confident in their dreams.
Let us share the stories of some of these children
Nikhil, a class 8th boy, created an Air fan after watching the activity video given on his tablet. He prepared it using waste resources available around him like matchboxes, cells, scales, leftover sheets and threads. Because of the availability of enjoyable digital content, he started staying back in school to explore growth-based content and showed his creative learning ability.
Nisha is a student of the residential school of Bhiwadi. We have not personally met her, but while reviewing usage reports, we found out that Nisha has spent a staggering 63% of her time reading digital books. Before this, she did not had access to books, and her interest would have waned off, but the availability of digital books on tablets helped her chase her passion for reading.
There are many more, like Nikhil and Nisha, who have their own interest in learning like every other kid, but the unavailability of resources that can support their journey of learning and growth is still missing.
Being a support to help these students pursue their dreams.
